Sophia Roe is a James Beard Award–winning chef, writer and Emmy Award–nominated TV host known for her focus on honesty, diversity and inclusivity. Sophia’s work celebrates cooking while helping advance food justice, build more sustainable and equitable systems, and combat industry whitewashing.

A powerful storyteller, she has created a community through many mediums. In 2021, Sophia was nominated for a Daytime Emmy as host of the Vice TV show “Counter Space”, which she also produces – the first and only Black woman to be nominated in the culinary category. The show was recognized again in 2022, nominated for Outstanding Culinary Series. In 2022, Roe won the James Beard Award for Emerging Voice in broadcast media.

Sophia supports organizations like the Women’s Prison Association, Edible Schoolyard NYC and the Fungi Foundation.

Sophia lives in Brooklyn, spends her free time writing, obsessing over fungi, and cooking in her studio, Apartment Miso.
